While the Lanith are not native to Chaconne, a small village of them has sprung up in the country of Belladato. This is where Rayne was born and very nearly died before taking his first breath. His mother had a difficult labor, not to mention an early one; Rayne was not due to be born for over a week. The stress of her husband’s recent death was believed to be the cause, The midwife managed to save the baby, but not the mother so the child was adopted by the Church of the Order.
This much Rayne knows, but all else he knows of his parents is a lie. They were not farmers and his father did not die from malfunctioning equipment. His father was a warrior with strong fire magic and his mother was a natural healer, often serving as nurse to wounded warriors. Even during her pregnancy with her husband on the other side of a planet fighting a war that was not theirs in hopes of stopping the spread of beliefs that taught against magic, Rayne’s mother continued to work. But hearing the news of her husband’s death days after the fact was too much fore her.
Out of respect for his mother’s last expressed wishes, Rayne was carefully steered away from any combat training. It was a relief to the priests to learn that he had natural healing magic like his mother. These talents were honed and he was kept in the village and far from the outside world for as long as possible. At last, however, they could no longer justify postponing his journeyman duties. If he were ever to be a priest, that year away from the village had to occur and he often asked when that year would be.
Finally outside of his small village Rayne quickly learned that there was much he did not know. Much his people had refused to know. One year away became two and he heard of a school. A school where he could learn all of these things and better serve his people. Assuming they would let him. He decided he had to try and enrolled himself in the Gilded Rose Academy where he is currently taking Healing Arts classes.
While he once thought to bring this knowledge to his village, he no longer thinks that possible. Even if he could get them to listen to new methods, they would not accept who he had become. The rules for those striving for priesthood permitted no homosexuality. Having fallen irrevocably in love with and married the undead male Anthro Tiger Autolycus, Rayne now violates that mandate on a regular basis.
