This story starts out like so many others have in the past...but that is where the similarities end. It started  many, many centuries ago, in a small town that is no longer there and only one person even remembers it anymore.
She was a lovely young woman, her people where a felines race, the one feature about them that set them apart was they had strands of precious metals in their fur and hair, hers was white and silver. She was a bright, happy young woman, barely in her twenties. and was to wed in a week. The love of her  life. They  had spent countless hours  taking walks in the sun among the bright flowers of the springtime it was in. sometimes laying down and making love among those same flowers. She looked forwards to being his wife and wanted nothing more then to grow old along side him.
The Saturday before her wedding was when it happened. At night of course, the village was attacked by vampires. A small but deadly band. It happened right after the sun set so everyone was more or less awake. They left no one alive. Yes, no one at all. Many got used for food, a few got turned, and a lot of them where just ..killed, since the vampires where full and needed nothing else to eat.
She woke up the next evening blood covered in her bed. She could tell she was different ...she knew what she was now, she was a vampire. But..she didn't feel like a bloodthirsty mindless savage, she felt..more or less the same as she did before. Rising from her bed she cleaned herself up and got dressed and went out to see if anyone survived, a mild hunger with in her but not much. A hunger that got taken away as she explored her devastated town. The carnage was sickening. dead bodies all over. no one alive..no other turned ones about. they must have taken those with them. She never learned why she was left, perhaps an accidental turning.
Upon reaching on certain house she stopped, unsure if she wanted to enter this house and find out the fate of those inside it. For it was the house of her Beloved. But she took a breath and entered, found it like the others, found ...him. Dead. not fed from, not turned. but dead. she lost it then, falling down and crying till she had no more tears left in her. her head laying on his still form. After a while she looked at him. his smooth gray fur that glinted with gold. She thought to herself "I am a vampire now, perhaps I can ...I will see" So, unsure and unknowing of her powers and only knowing what she knew from stories, she leaned over and bit his neck drinking from him, trying to bring him back to her by turning him. Not knowing he had to drink from her as well and as he was dead, was unable to do so.
That first taste of blood filled her with a new strength ..and a new knowledge, once she had fully drained him she knew it would not work. And she was filled with a great shame for what she had done..what she had become. Bending over and kissing his forever still lips she promised herself, and him, her whole village really. That she would never become a mindless killer. Her beloved would be her first and last sentient being she drank from. Alive or dead.
She spent the next several months digging graves and burring her village, each one given a proper and loving funeral attended by just her and the moon and stars. Her new vampirce strength helping her in the task, she managed about two graves a night.  When she needed food, she fed from cows or sheep, animals she had always eaten the meat of, only now she ate the blood. Soon all that had not been turned where buried. She didn't know what she should do now. She was afraid to go to another village for fear of being killed on sight for what she is now. All she wanted to do was continue on as she had been before the attack.
So she stayed in her village, reading the books that had been in each house. Learning all she could on anything. Keeping herself sane by just the simple act of reading, of teaching herself new skills. Exploring her new powers as well. She mastered all that she could, She had after all, Eternity to do so. She lived thusly for a century, bothered by no one as her village had been hidden since even before some hunted her people for the metal in their pelts. Only three times a year did she allow the loneliness to overcome her, On the anniversary of the attack, on what had been her beloved's birthday, and on the day that was to have been her wedding day. On those nights she went out to the grave yard and wept the whole night.
One lone person can not keep the ravages of time from overtaking the simple wooden buildings of the village. She watched each building slowly give in till the only one left standing was the one she lived in. and even that one was near falling apart. She knew the time to leave was coming soon. So using the magic she had learned from the books of the village mage she made a bag of holding and put the wealth of the village into it, all the books that still could be read, her clothing, including her carefully preserved by magic wedding dress. shouldered it and headed out at night to seek her future.
She avoided the smaller towns she came across, still fearing the superstitions  that surrounds vampires and not wishing to be killed. she traveled till she found a large city that bustled even and night.  Found herself a place to live, the landlord either not knowing or not caring what she was. She threw herself into trying to feel alive again. tried to recapture the life she had before. For a while it seemed she succeeded. in all but finding a new one to love. She found many to share her body with. Found pleasure in that even. but no one to love. She even found that she could eat solid foods as normal. just not gain anything from them. she still needed blood, and got it from a local butcher, who never asked what she wanted it for.
Then it was found out by accident what she was, after forty or so years. Her  friends wondering why she never was seen in the day, why she never seemed to age. They found out when they decided to surprise her in the day and took her outside, where upon her white fur started to smoke and she screamed in pain. Wrenching away she ran back into her home to heal, only that night she was greeted by an angry mob. She had no choice but to flee, gathering her things into the bag and running as fast as she could from the city, where she had never harmed anyone.
She found a cave to stay in for a few days then set off again. her next stop she found was a temple of learning. she approached it at night and was surprised when they took her in. But they did so, and she started to learn again. Learned of a rare jewel that would mask what she was from those that have the ability to seek out the undead. a blue Diamond. it took her a long time but she  found it eventually. Had it set into a necklace that she never took off. it did not give her any immunities to the sun or other such things. but Allowed her to live with out fear of being chased.
Setting back out into the world again, she had learned from the first time to not stay in one place for long. she became a drift. going from city to city town to town. Making and leaving friends and lovers. but still never finding a love. She longed for that. As much as she longed to walk in the sun again. but neither where in her reach. For centuries she lived this way.
Eventually she found a town that had many in it that did not age, called Rosepeak. here she felt she could settle for longer then she had been. so she did. None of her race survived so she could easily say her race is merely a long lived one to explain her unageing, and many in the town preferred the night to the day to live. Eventually she even found that she was not alone in her way of being a harmless vampire, but, she still did not revile to any what she was. She wanted to be as she was before. Again, almost managing that. Save for finding a love. Something she gave up on ever finding, Eventually even finding the joys lovemaking empty. She lived at night. alone, keeping to herself.
Till one night, as she sat in a cafe eating cheesecake, He walked past her. A young man. hardly out of boyhood, his clothing a mess of cuts and bloody but his body whole. Looking at him something sparked inside her. She inhaled and watched him as he ordered his food, Then called out to him. He joined her at the table. New to the town she offered to show him around. But first they stopped at her place so he could change clothing. She watched him as he moved, confused by the feelings stirring inside her, more then just lust, though that was there strongly. She craved this young man named Jason. Not his blood, he himself. She wanted to let her body join with his.
As it turns out he at least lusted for her as well. and instead of touring the town they spent that night together in her bed. He didn't disappoint at all in that department. She lay next to him as he slept later, watching him. Unsure what to do next. Wanting to tell him what she was but afraid to as well. It was bad times in town then for the undead, a crew of hunters had taken up camp and they hunted not only the mindless animalistic ones that she herself abhorred, but the ones that never hurt others as well, like herself.. The only reason she felt safe was they didn't know of her from her gem, no one did, only other vampires could tell she was a vampire. Before she settled down to sleep herself she reached over and caressed his face tenderly, feeling something with in her stir she had not felt since..before she became a vampire...The pangs of love..
